Boardwalk Inn Resort Review

September 27, 2012

A review of Disney’s Boardwalk Inn

Disney’s Boardwalk is one of 3 Disney owned resorts located  in the ‘Epcot resort area’, the Yacht & Beach Club resorts being the two, in addition there are also the Swan & Dolphin resorts, but these are not Disney owned.

My lovely comfy bed

There are two sides to Disney’s Boardwalk, one being the villas, a Disney Vacation Club facility with ‘apartments’, which Disney call ‘villas’, and the Inn, a deluxe full service resort, the Inn is a ‘traditional’ hotel.

The theming of the Boardwalk is based on the 20s and 30s Eastern Seaboard, in the era of the Great Gatsby – the Boardwalk itself provides dining and entertainment and is a very unique place to stay.

Club level lounge

One of the biggest bonuses to staying in the Epcot resort area is location, location, location – both Epcot and Disney Studios are within walking distance, Epcot is only a 5-10 minute walk, Disney Studios closer to 20 minutes, alternatively you can hop on one of the Friendship Boats.  Other parks are served by the Disney bus transportation system.  Not only are two great parks within walking distance but you have a fantastic selection of restaurants on the Boardwalk, at the other Epcot resorts and Epcot itself, in addition there are bars/clubs on the Boardwalk and nightly entertainment along the lines of fire-eaters and magicians.

The Boardwalk Inn is very small compared to the other Disney resorts and only has around 370 rooms which lends itself to very personalised service by the cast members working there

Rooms have been refurbished in the last couple of years and are luxuriously elegant but at the same time very understated, the beds are wonderfully comfortable.  In the last few months the Boardwalk Inn has also been reclassified in the US hotel rating system and is now the same rating as the Grand Floridian.

Standard view rooms overlook the gardens and resort entrance, the best, and more expensive rooms, overlook the Boardwalk itself.

What a view!

In addition there is a fabulous club level, the InnKeepers Club, which is located on the 4th floor in a secure keyed access area, although some of the deluxe club level rooms are also located on the 3rd floor.

Having stayed at other Disney resorts offering club level, the InnKeepers Club stands miles above them, the cast members are wonderfully approachable and provide an even more personalised service.  One of the benefits of staying club level are the food/beverage offerings throughout the day, continental breakfast is served each morning from 7 am until 10.30 am, then various snacks, including handmade potato chips and chocolate covered peanuts are available from 11.30 am until 4 pm, from 5 pm until 7.00 pm wine and cheese selections are served including crudités, various dips, cheeses and two ‘hot offerings’ (think along the lines of party food and you won’t be far wrong) each evening, then from 8 pm until 10 pm mini desserts and cordials (alcohol) are available .  Tea/coffee and sodas are available to help yourself to throughout the day.

The Boardwalk Inn is Disney’s best kept secret, for those who are looking for somewhere ‘special’ away from the crowds, this is it.

Disney’s Boardwalk Inn is a Deluxe Resort.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
